Pattern Size Finder
Sewing pattern sizes are different from ready-to-wear. Enter your bust, waist, and hip measurements and we'll find your size across 10+ brands — Big 4, Burda, Cashmerette, Closet Core, and more. For tops, your bust measurement matters most. For skirts, use hip.
Why pattern sizes differ from RTW
Ready-to-wear clothing sizes are arbitrary and vary by retailer. Pattern sizes are based on body measurements — but each company uses a different set of measurements and different amounts of ease (the extra room built into the garment). A size 14 in Vogue may have completely different measurements than a size 14 in Burda.
For tops and bodices, most patterns size by bust or high bust. For skirts and trousers, size by hip, then adjust the waist. For dresses, you often need to cut different sizes at the bust and hip and blend between them.
This is why fit adjustments exist — grading between sizes, FBAs, SBAs, and waist adjustments. No one should expect a pattern to fit perfectly off the page.
