Where to find the pattern waist
The pattern waist is the measurement you need to compare against your body waist. Two ways to find it:
- From the size chart:Look up the waist measurement for your chosen size in the brand's published size chart. This is an approximation — the actual pattern may vary slightly due to ease.
- Measure the pattern directly: More accurate. Lay the front and back pattern pieces on a flat surface. Measure along the waist seamline of all four pieces (front left, front right, back left, back right) and add them together. Do not include seam allowances if the pattern has them.
Measuring the pattern directly is recommended if your body measurements are between sizes or if you've already made any other adjustments to the pattern.
